Tamaire competition

The day of the big competition!

The sports centre is all tamaire'd up.

Some taiko drumming too.

A stand where you can buy various beetles.

Some merchandise made of beanbag material.
Wallets, change purses, cell phone dangles, bandanas, bows, and teddybears.

The time limit for each round is three minutes. Our team at least managed to get all our bags in before the bell for both of the rounds we played, but we weren't fast enough  for a third one. The pro teams are really impressive. I saw one team finish in less than 20 seconds.

Some of the teams wore silly costumes.

This is a version of tamaire where the basket is really low but you have to throw from outside the circle. It makes the bags scatter when you throw multiples.

For lunch, the player got to do yakiniku in the picnic area. We grilled mutton, which is called jingisukan in Japan, after Genghis Khan. Look that up on Wikipedia for an explanation.

There were a lot of teams. We were team 83.

Here's my team. Grace and Silvia from China, and Zan and An from Vietnam.
Our team name, which none of us chose, was the Wassamu World Players.
All the foreigners together! (Plus one Japanese guy.)

Some birch trees for mom.
